New years eve Ushuaia

Feeling crabby on new years eve in Ushuaia
Ross adds
A day of picking, preparing and purchasing in Ushuaia  - and some found time to eat.
The food here in Ushuaia has been excellent and Rob described the crab as very meaty and not as strong as the Western Australian blue mana from Australind.  It was however a messy experience with great ambience in the small restaurant.  It was sluiced down with a Patagonian Viognier white wine.

We are scheduled to be on board Spirit at 8am with departure soon after.  Customs formalities are complete and we have to leave before noon.
The forecast is for very light winds and we are advised we will be crossing the Drake Lake (as opposed to Drake Passage), slowly. It will be a new experience after the 50 knots last time.

First sight of Spirit of Sydney

We have arrived in Ushuaia and been checking out the city. From 37C in Buenos Aires to 7C and a gale here.  I think we should go back to sailing in the tropics.

Ushuaia

One of the best steaks I've had and apparently the beer from the associated micro brewery was very good.  Certainly the Malbec was excellent.

The Plan

We are sailing to the Antarctic Peninsula aboard Spirit of Sydney to explore the region by kayak and on foot.  We depart Ushuaia on 1 January 2018 and hope to return on the 27th of January.

The photos are from my last trip to Antarctica aboard Spirit of Sydney.
